Payments overview
Sell your Swop products on your own website. People pay by card or USDC, AI agents pay automatically, and you're paid in USDC.
Swop Payments lets you take money for your products on your own website, without building payments plumbing. You list products in Swop, connect your site with a merchant API key, and Swop handles pricing, the payment itself, the receipt email, the order record and your payout.
The 30-second version
- You create products in the Swop app (or with an API key that has
commerce.write). - A buyer chooses something on your site.
- Swop shows them a payment: USDC from any wallet, or card if your account is verified for card.
- The money lands, Swop creates the order and emails a receipt. You never call a "confirm" endpoint.
- Swop pays you out in USDC, minus a 0.5% fee. For physical goods sold online, your payout waits until the buyer confirms delivery (escrow).
New to crypto payments?
USDC is a digital dollar: 1 USDC is designed to be worth 1 US dollar and is issued by Circle. "Paid in USDC" means the money arrives in your Swop wallet as dollars on a blockchain, which you can hold, send or swap in the Swop app. A payment has settled when the transfer is final on the blockchain. You don't need to understand blockchains to use this API: Swop watches the chain for you and tells you when money has arrived.
Three ways to integrate
Pick the one that matches how much of the checkout you want to own. All three settle the same way and produce the same orders and webhooks.
| What the buyer sees | What you build | Key scopes | Time to ship | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Payment link | Swop's product page | Nothing: paste a link | none | Minutes |
| Framed checkout | Swop's checkout, inside your page | One server route that mints a short-lived token | commerce.embed | An afternoon |
| Headless checkout | Your own cart and payment UI | A cart, a server route and a payment step | commerce.checkout, commerce.read | A day or two |
Quickstart
Take your first payment from your own server in about ten minutes.
Crypto vs. card
Which buyers can pay how, and what each rail needs from you.
Webhooks
Ship on checkout.paid. Book revenue on payout.released.
API reference
Every merchant endpoint, with request and response examples.
AI agents can buy too
Every Swop product is also sellable to AI agents. When an agent (rather than a browser) requests your product link, Swop answers with an HTTP 402 payment challenge and the agent pays in USDC on Base automatically. You don't build anything for this. See Agent payments.
Fees
| Rail | Fee | Who pays it |
|---|---|---|
| Crypto (USDC) | 0.5%, minimum 0.015 USDC per checkout | You. It comes out of your proceeds; the buyer pays exactly your listed price. |
| Card | Shown separately in the response for each checkout | You |
The fee breakdown for every checkout is in its fees object, so you never have to calculate it yourself:
"fees": {
"currency": "USDC",
"feesPayer": "merchant",
"subtotalAmount": 30,
"platformFeeBps": 50,
"platformFeeAmount": 0.15,
"merchantReceivesAmount": 29.85,
"totalDueAmount": 30
}Who can accept what
- Crypto is never gated on identity. Any Swop account can take USDC as soon as it has products. No business verification, no KYC.
- Card needs merchant verification. Complete it in the Swop app. Until then, a key with the
commerce.cardscope simply behaves as crypto-only; nothing breaks.
Before you go live
There is no sandbox yet
Swop doesn't have test keys or a test mode today. Every checkout you create is real. Test with a low-priced product of your own and pay it from a different wallet. http://localhost is accepted for embed origins and webhook URLs so you can develop locally.
