MCP money actions refused

Your AI assistant can look things up but won’t send, pay, swap or trade.

Symptom: Your AI assistant can look things up but won’t send, pay, swap or trade.

Why this happens

The Swop MCP lets assistants like ChatGPT, Claude and Grok use Swop. Reading things is easy; moving money is deliberately hard. Three separate locks must all be open: the assistant is signed in with the right permissions, you've switched on AI spending in the Swop app, and the action fits your caps. Each one is under your control, and only you can open the second and third, in the app.

Walk through it

Answer one question at a time. The first no is almost always the cause.

Diagnose: MCP money actions refusedCheck 1 of 6

Is the assistant connected to https://mcp.swopme.co/mcp (not /mcp/commerce)?

How to check: The /mcp/commerce endpoint has no tools that move money.

Check these in order

1. Is the assistant connected to https://mcp.swopme.co/mcp (not /mcp/commerce)?

How to check: The /mcp/commerce endpoint has no tools that move money.

If not: Add the connector with the full /mcp URL. See Endpoints.

2. Is the assistant signed in, with the money permissions granted?

How to check: A 401 or error -32001 means it isn’t signed in. Money tools need scopes like wallet.send, payments.x402, wallet.trade, perps.trade or predictions.trade at consent.

If not: Disconnect and reconnect the assistant, approve the Swop sign-in, and grant the permissions it asks for. See Account linking and caps.

3. Is “Let AI assistants send money” switched on in the Swop app?

How to check: Swop app → Settings → AI assistants. An assistant can read it with swop_get_spending_delegation.

If not: Switch it on and set per-transaction and daily caps. Only you can do this, in the app.

4. Does the action fit your per-transaction and daily caps (and perps margin and leverage caps)?

How to check: swop_get_spending_delegation shows today’s remaining cap.

If not: Over a cap, USDC on Base returns a link to approve that one payment in the app; other tokens are refused. Raise caps in Settings → AI assistants, or send from the app.

5. Did the confirm match its preview?

How to check: Money tools preview first, then confirm. A confirm that differs from its preview is refused, and agent-change previews expire after five minutes.

If not: Ask the assistant to preview again and confirm that preview.

6. Is it something the MCP can do at all?

How to check: Never possible through the MCP: signing in for you, turning AI spending on, raising caps, using cards, or moving assets on Solana.

If not: Do those in the Swop app. See Account linking and caps.
